2012 Newsletter 16.02.2012

Dear Friends, Volunteers, and generous ROTH Donors,

We are pleased to be sending you a copy of our annual newsletter complete with updates and pictures from all of our ongoing projects!  As we get ready to head back to Tanzania to double the capacity of the MWEDO girls secondary school, we want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your ongoing support and we invite you follow our progress this summer!

The Women in Crisis Centre construction is finally complete! The building will officially be handed over to the Vision Sisters by the end of January and an official opening to the public will follow once management structures and programs have been put into place.

ROTH is currently looking for volunteers both in Canada and abroad to join us on site in Arusha, Tanzania for the second phase of the construction of the MWEDO Maasai Girls Secondary School.

The first phase of the project began in the region of Arusha in Tanzania in the summer of 2010 with the construction of a school building, a dormitory and a kitchen. In January 2011, at the beginning of the school year in Tanzania, the school operated by MWEDO and recognized by the Minister of Education in Tanzania opened its doors and welcomed its first 78 students.

Thanks to the generous contribution of sanofi-aventis and ROTH donors, the construction of the lab will mean greater access to essential health services for the entire community of Piave. Once completed, the site will allow onsite testing for HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, and other national priority diseases. This means the Piave Dispensary, Maternity Ward and HIV/AIDS Counselling Centre will be able to operate more efficiently and reduce the number of referrals it currently makes to other health centres. A special thanks also goes to Sam Wright, who has been working tirelessly all summer to make sure the lab is completed on time and within budget.  He has done amazing work and we are most grateful for all of his efforts!
